Last October, Microsoft officials were extremely confident that no customer would be left behind on an unsupported Windows 10. However, the percentage of enterprise workstations that can be upgraded to Windows 11 has improved over the past year: Last October, Lansweeper found that 55% of workstations did not meet the Windows 11 minimum system requirements.ĭochy notes that the percentage of devices that meet the CPU and TPU requirements increased by 12%, while those that meet the RAM requirements increased by 1.8% (the vast majority of PCs met already the minimum of 4 GB RAM). “Lansweeper data, based on an estimated 30 million Windows devices from 60,000 organizations, shows that on average only 57.26% of workstations are eligible for the automatic upgrade, while the rest would not be eligible,” notes Esben Dochy by Lansweeper in a blog post. Lansweeper found that 42.76% of CPUs did not meet the minimum, while 14.66% did not meet Microsoft’s TPM 2.0 requirement. Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 and approved CPUs.

The main obstacles when upgrading devices to Windows 11 were either the CPU and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which was either absent or not enabled. Microsoft released Windows 11 in October 2021 and Windows 11 22H2 on September 20, but many companies have yet to get around to upgrading, and hardware that doesn’t meet the requirements will be one of the factors holding them back.
